2013 Recap

This is my 6th year in a row to do a recap (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). Like most before it, 2013 has been an amazing year. As I've said before, I like to embrace change. Many things changed for me in 2013, and almost all of it was for the better.
Meg and I got married!
Meg and I had a fantastic beach wedding. We got to spend time with family and friends at the beach, we had great food and great fun, and then Meg and I got to enjoy a wonderful honeymoon in Jamaica. Following the wedding, we came back home to begin our marriage. It has all been better than I imagined. I have learned that the more I take care of my wife, the more she takes care of me. Our marriage started this year, and it will continue for many more.
We moved across town
Meg and I had lived in the same apartment in Midtown for over 3 years. While we enjoyed the local restaurants and closeness to parks and museums, we didn't like the commute and the ever climbing rent. Through a friend, we found a great house to rent in Missouri City, near the school where Meg works. It's much more of a suburban lifestyle, and now we have a garage, a yard, and a space for an office. The move took a lot of energy, and while the change happened fast, it has turned out to be a great change for us.
I left Schipul (now Tendenci)
After four and a half years at the company, I gave my notice and am moving on to a new opportunity. Over that time, we did some great work and I made some great relationships. I can't say enough about all that I learned and the great experiences I had there, and I wish them all nothing but success.
I found a "dream job"
My new job will be as a developer with FantasyPros, a website with fantasy sports consensus rankings, advice, and tools for fantasy sports enthusiasts. I've had a passion for sports for a long time, and have gained lots of experience and skills as a developer. This job is right in the mix of what I'm good at and what I enjoy. I'm very excited about what my future will hold there.
At the beginning of the year, I set some goals that I did not meet. Instead of eating vegan, I went back to meat and dairy. I probably only have meat in 4 of 21 meals a week, though I would guess cheese is involved in another 10 meals. As far as more physical activity goes, I also fell short on that front, too. Those two failures combined with the result of me gaining about 25lbs throughout the year. This was what I was trying to avoid.
However, I was pretty close on my guesses. As I mentioned, I did get married, and it was a fantastic wedding and so far has been a great marriage. We also moved into a house (renting) and as far as work goes, it was a successful year even though I am moving on.
